Question:

Exchange Student-ing?

I would love to be an exchange student, I'm going into 9th grade this year but I was thinking for the first semester of my 10th grade year. Any exchange students or parents of exchange students out there have recommendations for programs?

Also, a friend and I have been discussing being exchange students together. Are there any programs that allow you to do this?

Thanks in advance!

  1. All I can tell you, in my best advice, is do NOT go with INTRAX. I just got back from my program with them in Ecuador and it was amazing, that is everything was BUT THEM. Definitely go abroad, it was the most amazing experience of my life, and I'm planning on moving there in October :) Good luck!

  3. I would wait until you are a Junior to study abroad, most exchange students are 16/17 or a Junior when they leave but you don't have to be. Also, go for the full year! A semester is far too short! I definitely recommend AFS, they have 60 years of experience in intercultural exchanges and have a terrific support system! They also exchange to the places that you are looking to go to. I don't know of any programs that will allow 2 people to exchange together, the most you could do is both apply to the same country but it's doubtful you'll be in the same area. However, don't let that discourage you from going! The fun part of being an exchange student is to be completely immersed into a different culture surrounded by new things! Feel free to ask me any other question you might have!

    Good Luck!
