I purchase a motorcycle on 7/3/08. It was delivered that night around 8:15pm. I took it out for to get a feel for the bike on 7/4/08. went about a mile if that. I don't like the way it handles. too powerful for me. can I send it back for a different bike? No damage has been done to the motorcycle. I read nothing in the contract indicating sales are final. The dealership representative said no and hung up on me. What should I do? I like to down size the bike from a Shadow 600 to a Rebel 250.

  1. sounds like you now own a Shadow.  Learn to love it and you will.  The Shadow is a great bike and a 600 is a good size for you.  Maybe not right now, but within a year, you'll be glad you stayed with it.  Just take it easy, it'll only go as fast as you twist the throttle.  The Rebel is a great learner bike, but not many people stay with them for long.  My son went from a 250 Rebel to a Yamaha 1100.  The 250 just got to small for him.

  2. oh come on this is not walmarts.... so you cant take back cars trucks or bikes.... id just learn how to ride it... or you sell it to someone who want it... then before you buy another go sit on a few so you know how they feel on your butt... its a good sign when you sit on one that is right you will know it... 250 is great bike if your a young kid and are not going to far from home... you just wanting something to get across town get a moped or the rebel

  3. I do not think you can give it back, but if you  are  uncomfortable with it do not ride it. Maybe  you can       trade it right back in on something smaller that you feel better with.

If you are lucky you could trade in on a Kycmo Venox better learner than a rebel and much better bike easier for you to ride.

  4. Just relax and take it easy. If you really want to return it. I'd call an Attorney and ask them about the return laws in your state.

I believe you will grow into it. Once you get some seat time down you will get comfortable with it.After all it;s a 600. I bought a 750  and thought it was pretty powerful when I first got it,now I want a 1100 plus.

  5. Nothing you can do but sell it and take your beating...sorry. I really hate that you cannot test ride most bikes before purchasing.

  6. First off - You can't take it back unless the dealer agrees. You'd need to make a pretty sweet deal for that though, because the dealer has already initiated the DMV paperwork, so now you have a used bike. It's a certainty that he would accept it as a trade in though (at a substantially reduced value).

What you should do is ride the 600 for  while, get to know her. She become one of your best friends.

There is no reason for the dealer rep to be rude to a customer that just spent a boatload of cash, and you should mention this to his superior.

  7. If you signed the paperwork, and took delivery (sounds like "yes" on both), then you own the bike now.

There is no "buyer's remorse" or "cooling-off period" in vehicle sales. CA is the only exception, and you have to purchase that right up front.

Some folks will hop on and say "oh, you have 72 hrs, 3 days, 7 days, 2 weeks, etc.", but that is NOT true.

  8. In most states consumer products are covered by 3-day Right to Rescind (buyer's remorse) laws.  Unfortunately, motor vehicle sales and leasing contracts usually aren't covered. You would have to check your state laws. Why would you buy a bike without trying it?
