Exchanging money using Travelex?

I am wanting to exchange money using Travelex since they offer the best rates ive seen compared to the high street stores. However, do i need to order online then collect it at the airport? or can i just buy it on the day at the airport?

If i do need to order it, anyone know if i'll get charged using my halifax debit card to pay?

Thanks!

  1. You actually get a better rate of exchange if you order your money online, and then collect it at the airport. If you change your money at the airport, you will be charged commission.

You shouldn't be charged if you use your Halifax card. Just follow the instructions to order your money online, then print off, or make a note of your reservation number, and then you will just have to show this, along with the card you have used, and your passport when you collect your money at the airport.

Before you do this however....check at your local Co-op supermarket, who are offereing packages of 100, or 50 Euros.....they also offer quite a good rate.

  2. You can just turn up and exchange currency at most Travelex booths no problem as long as it is a relatively common currency (such as Euros, US Dollars, etc).

You may not get as good a rate on the day though as the markets change constantly and buying for collection would give piece of mind.

Don't know about the VISA debit charge though.
