Excitement and nervousness builds as the tour approaches the Johnnie Walker Championship
Players are anxiously waiting for one of the most prestigious tournaments of the European tour, the Johnnie Walker Championship. The venue for this auspicious event is the Gleneagles hotel in Perthshire, Scotland. The four-day event is going to start on
the 23rd of August and is going to end on the 26th of August.
At the event, the biggest European names in the world of golf are going to collide for the last time before the Ryder Cup.
The list of players also includes Scotland’s Paul Lawrie, Spain’s Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts. These three players are going to be under the spot light throughout the tournament.
The trio is nervously waiting for the championship as after the event, the European team for the 2012 Ryder Cup will be decided. The three players are hoping to be in the team of José María Olazábal.
Currently out of the three players, Lawrie is the only one qualifying. The other two players Cabrera-Bello and Colsaerts just have a few points less than the points required for qualifying.
All three of them are in good form and have shown real promise this year. Each of them has managed to bag a trophy on the European Tour.
Currently Paul Lawrie is on the third spot with still a few tournaments left before the selection for the 2012 Ryder Cup.
In an interview he said, “I think I’m almost there, but when you're there is when the team sheet comes out on the Monday after the Johnnie Walker Championship, so I’m looking forward to that”.
Cabrera-Bello is just a few points away and has a good chance of making it into the team. In an interview he said, “It’s looking like the race to get into José’s team will go right down to the wire so I’m getting ready for what will be one of the most important
run of tournaments in my life, culminating at the Johnnie Walker Championship”.
Colsaerts proved himself when he bagged the trophy in May at the Volvo World Match. He said that it is a dream for him to play in the Ryder Cup. Moreover, he is going to leave nothing for chance and give it his best to qualify in the coming up tournaments.
