Excitement on the rise for Houston Astros as Spring Training nears - MLB Update
Spring Training is just around the corner and Bo Porter, the recently hired manager of the Houston Astros can’t wait for it to start. The former third base coach of the Washington Nationals is yet to meet all his players on the field as the team had dispersed
for off-season by the time matters related to his hiring were settled.
The Spring Training for the Astros will take place at Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee, Florida. The reporting date to the training is on Monday, February 11. However, Bo is already there and is getting his office and other places settled. Some of the
players have also arrived ahead of time and had a bit of a workout as well.
The manager is aware of the excitement that one feels when he reaches the ground. Porter said that he is itching to go and the wait is almost over. He is anxious to get things underway and so are some of the guys in the team he has talked to.
"Once you get here and you smell the grass, you start to get that itch and you're ready for the start like right now," Porter said. "Obviously, with Spring Training right around the corner, we can taste it, we can feel it and I am extremely anxious to get
started. I know a lot of the players I've talked to, they're anxious to get started," the manager said.
The Astros have been dwelling at the bottom of the MLB table now for two years and have lost over a hundred games each year. This is certainly a bad trend and the team is now moving to the highly competitive American League West which means that the challenge
will be even greater.
Porter knows that there have been many changes that have taken place in the Houston ball club this off-season and he believes that these are for the better. He knows that the team will have to maintain a certain attitude to be successful in the upcoming
season and they have to play like champions to improve.
"[The players] will see different signage around the clubhouse that speaks to the changes that have taken place and feeding their mind about the things we believe need to be fed into their mind that will help them understand the dynamic of the changes,"
Porter said.
The manager so far has had a positive impact on the players and it appears that he can very well lead them in the coming season with a lot of inspiration. Moving to a new league and making changes to the outlook of the team are some of the major changes
the Astros have gone through recently.
The most important factor, however, remains and that is whether the team will rise from the ashes and make its mark by performing significantly better or will it remain at the bottom of table for some time to come.
