Exciting memories are still fresh - Glorious Goodwood Festival 2011 (Part 1)
Glorious Goodwood has always been a thrilling affair, and last year was no exception. The horseracing lovers enjoyed the festival so much that they still cherish the memories.
There were two massive upsets at the start of the proceedings. Arlequin shocked the 100-30 favourite, Modun, in the Bet365.com Stakes (Handicap) – the opening race of the Glorious Goodwood. The Group 3 Bet365 Gordon Stakes also produced a huge surprise,
as Namibian crushed the 11-10 favourite, Fiorente, with ease.
After a couple of upsets, Strong Suit brought things back to normal. The 5-2 favourite performed to his high reputation, and sealed an emphatic win in the Group 2 Bet365 Lennox Stakes.
The Group 3 Bet365 Molecomb Stakes was another major event on the opening day of the mega event. The 5-furlong contest was dominated by Requinto, who blitzed a few big names to ensure a comprehensive triumph.
On the second day of the meeting, Chandlery showed it to the world that why he was declared favourite for the Group 2 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes. The 3-year-old performed so well that it was impossible for the rest of the pack to catch him.
The Group 1 Qipco Sussex Stakes was won by Frankel, who bagged the top prize with ridiculous ease. It was Frankel’s sixth graded success, and the Sir Henry Cecil-trained has been unbeaten since then. Khalid Abdulla’s four-year-old is in great shape, and
has an obvious chance of defending his title this year.
The third day of the Glorious Goodwood also hosted plenty of big events. In the Group 2 Audi King George Stakes, Masamah performed magnificently to secure a surprise win. The 4-1 chance dominated the proceedings from pillar to post, beating the likes of
Amour Propre and Group Therapy comprehensively.
After a shocking result at the start of the day, the audience were expecting a few more surprising results, but Opinion Poll did not let anyone spoil his party in the Group 2 Artemis Goodwood Cup. The 9-2 chance was an easy winner in the 2-mile contest,
grabbing the big prize of £56,710.00.
The Group 3 Shares Fillies' Stakes was the last graded event on the third day. It was won by Meeznah, who clinched the first place by two and a half lengths in the hands of Frankie Dettori.
The opening three days produced a lot of thrill, and the drama continued throughout the festival. The final two days were also full of excitement, as the spectators witnessed a lot of breathtaking performances.
