  1. because they are excited!n want 2 show it!lol

  2. On here...and other internet chat...it is used to denote a cheery voice. It's meant to display light heartedness.

  3. It means they want to show strong feelings about something. For example: "The cake was great!" That means they really enjoyed the cake. If they put an exclamation point at the end of a sentence like this: "The cake was awful!", that means that they thought the cake was very awful. I hope this helps you! ^_^

  4. To emphasize on something!

  5. maybe! they're! very! excited! about! seeing! said! person! tomorrow!

  6. These punctuation marks are indeed, as you say, greatly overused. I think they are the resort of the lazy minded, who cannot be bothered to phrase something in a way that lets the meaning come out of the words. Its overuse can be too often the equivalent of those who write punctuation marks in the air to emphasize a point they are speaking about.

It has its uses, to express surprise or astonishment or irony and so on. But if one exclamation mark is intended to invoke a sense of surprise in the reader, what is a row of ten supposed to induce -- apoplexy?

I have an unwritten rule that in any letter or similarly sized article I write, I will not use more than two exclamation marks throughout the article, and never together.  If on re-reading I find there are three, I choose one to be removed, re-phrasing if necessary to get the appropriate meaning across. I've found it a very useful way to get the meaning I want coming from the words themselves ; and I have never yet found a situation where I really did need three or four exclamations scattered in the text.

  7. The worst is Yahoo! which has an exclamation mark as part of its name.

Or maybe I should say: The! worst! is! Yahoo! which! has! an! exclamation! mark! as! part! of! its! name!
