Excluding during the winter, why do birds chirp all year long?

Actually, birds chirp in the winter as well as during warm weather.  They have a lot to talk about.  You are correct in that some calls are used to attract a mate.  Many birds have several sounds that they make according to what is being communicated.  Baby birds chirp (sometimes constantly) to let the parents know that they are hungry.  Birds have calls to signal danger, alert other birds to intruders, and to let other birds know that food or water is nearby.  Sometimes, birds sing just because they are happy and well fed.


  2. Birds chirp to communicate with each other--to warn of potential dangers, inform of food sources, and just keep track of each other. It's not all about s*x.
