Exclusion from New York Mets changed fate of Angel Pagan - MLB Update
Outfielder Angel Pagan succeeds in San Francisco Giants after he was traded there last year by New York Mets.
He was below par while he played with the Mets in 2011. Due to this when Giants’ general manager Brian Sabean showed interest in acquiring him, the Mets’ GM Sandy Alderson readily agreed to a deal with him.
The latter obtained Andrés Torres and Ramón Ramírez in exchange for Pagan from the former.
Unfortunately while the deal bore immediate dividends for the Giants, for the Mets it has turned out to be costly one. The players added on the roster through the trade have not performed as per their expectations.
No wonder, the Mets spent a greater part of the regular season languishing at the bottom half of their Division table.
As soon as Pagan left the Mets, his offensive numbers improved sharply. He has hit .288 so far in the season with the Giants. As they play World Series now, he is poised to make decisive contributions in the important matches ahead.
Throughout the regular season, he put up excellent shows at the plate and performed consistently.
His incredible performances in the season may make the Mets repent their decision of trading him last year.
It has been an irony with the most of the lower ranked clubs in the Major League that players go on to achieve heights of success as soon as they part ways with them.
The case of Miami Marlins, the present can be an excellent example. Just like what happened with the Mets in the case of Pagan, the Marlins have found a number of their players becoming star after leaving them.
Giants’ manager believes that sometime a change in the club renders great results in terms of an improvement in performance of a player.
“I think it’s always good for a player - a change of scenery can do them well,” says Bruce Bochy. “They occasionally will, I hate to say, get stale, but they seem to become a different player sometimes with a different club. Same with the player that could
be with us that moves on. You see that happen a lot.”
Pagan will be looking to deliver stand-out performances in the World Series and help his team win the crown.
