Recent developments in the case include the demand for greater transparency in regards to the payments for domestic players, who tend to go unnoticed and unchecked in comparison to the more high-profile international stars.
“The brand gets affected by these allegations and the best way to do it is by having either open auctions or an exclusive auction for uncapped domestic players,” an IPL team official said to the
PTI. “We have already intimated our feelings to IPL Governing council in this regard. They have assured us that the matter would be seriously considered.”
The BCCI vetoed the possibility of an open auction, pointing out that the auctions were televised events, and it would be impractical to have multitudes of domestic players present. However, the board did show enthusiasm for having a separate auction for
domestic players, which would ensure greater transparency regarding their salaries.
“… we can certainly think of a separate auction for domestic players even if it’s not televised. It will certainly be a step forward towards maintaining transparency as far payments are concerned,” said a BCCI official.
