Question:

Excuses to get out of car pooling with someone??

I am supposed to go carpooling with a co-working on Monday night to a convention that is two hours away. The final destination is at the same hotel and the check-in is at the same day, BUT I do not want to car pool with him as he will chat my head off and I just basically can't stand him let alone trapped for two hours one way and two hours back... How do I politely excuse myself out of the car pool (drive by myself) but not hurt his feelings? Thanks.

  1. You could just take an iPod with headphones and listen to that.  Or take a notebook and say you have important work to do.

But I think you're being WAY too nice here.  Just tell him that you want to sleep, or rest, or whatever, and you'd rather not chat at the moment.  Unless you're scared of him, I don't see what the problem is.

  2. ask him if he's lookin forward to the car pool and if he's all excited and giddy just deal. there are millions of situations worse than yours and maybe he's not as bad as you make him out to be...

  3. you might tell him that you have an early doctor's appointment that day (you doctor has agreed to squeeze you in) and that you will probably see him at the convention.

  4. Bring some tunes along and headphones

Tell him your rather tired and would like to sleep---if he's driving. Can you bring along work related stuff  to read and tell him you need to focus on it.None would be a lie. With your job it may not be in your best interest to say no.

  5. Tell him you have to be somewhere else before leaving for the trip(like a relatives) sp you are just going to drive your self from there.

  6. I think thats pretty immature.

You would be better off to bring your ipod, or a book, and after  some polite conversation, put your ipod on or read your book.

    Beats paying gas.

  7. tell him you are not driving directly home. You need to stop at another location somewhere between here and there to visit an old friend, or college buddy. Will work like a charm.

  8. Tell him you have really bad gas. Nobody wants to be stuck in a car with someone who farts!

  9. Oh you are just TOO nice.

    Good Luck...
