Executiveprivilege to bounce back in the Hollywood Starlet Stakes
The Grade 1, $500,000 Hollywood Starlet Stakes has reeled in the favourite of the Grade 1 Grey Goose Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies, Executiveprivilege, who lost to Beholder in second at Santa Anita Park on 2 November, 2012, over 1 1/16 miles.
Hollywood Starlet Stakes will be run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles over the Betfair Hollywood Park’s cushion track on 8 December, 2012, as the race will be restricted for 2-year-old fillies only.
Coming into the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, Executiveprivilege, had never been defeated in five career starts, but her five race win streak was snapped at the Breeders’ Cup, and that too only marginally.
Already a two-time grade 1 winner, Executiveprivilege will probably run against the top 3 finishers of the Sharp Cat Stakes. The winner of the race Midnight Ballet, Doug O’Neill trained second place finisher in the Sharp Cat Stakes, Renee’s Titan, and the third placed filly Smart Strike, Scarlet Strike, will take the field for horseman, Jerry Hollendorfer.
After her first loss in six races, Executiveprivilege turned in her first work after the Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita Park, and worked half mile on 2 December, 2012, and turned in the distance in 48 seconds flat, which turned out to be the seventh best out of seventeen works at the distance.
Jockey Rafael Bejarano guided Executiveprivilege to five victories in six starts, which also include wins in the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes, Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante and the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes over 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita Park on 29 September.
Mike Smith will ride Executiveprivilege for the first time, replacing Rafael Bejarano. Mike Smith is also coming off a gritty victory riding Game on Dude in the Grade 3 Native Diver Handicap at Hollywood Park on 1 December.
Dr. Mark Dedomenico and Pegram’s Blonde Fog will also be in the Starlet’s mix. Trained by Bob Baffert, the filly will add intrigue to the Starlet lineup. She made an impressive debut on 28 October, 2012, at Santa Anita Park, as the daughter of divine Park won it by 12 massive lengths.
