Exemptions, not the right path for “The Big Easy”!!!
“The Big Easy” barely sneaked into the US Open. Things are not going that easy for the golfing giant as his performance has been inconsistent.
He failed to win the Zurich classic, and his participation in the US Open was doubt full yet his playoffs got him in the tournament. Its disappointing as Els is a two-time US Open Champion.
For someone who has been the leading money winner on the European Tour, it is disappointing that he is being named in the category of exemptions.
Els has seen his glory in the early and mid 1990’s where his might and sight, both were going his way. His playoffs got appreciation and popularity all over the globe.
His signature swings had force and precision that was rarely seen in other players. He calls himself a non-technical player and focuses more towards flawless and aggressive drives.
These flawless drives are rarely seen in recent times as his signature touch is missing throughout his games.
His personal life has caused him a little distraction as well. His son was diagnosed with autism which had a strong effect on him and his wife. He has been active in charity work and has donated an impressive amount of funds for the autism charity.
In 2005, Els faced a leg injury while he and his family were vacationing in the Mediterranean. He had to miss-out on numerous events for months on which had a strong impact on him sustaining his quality in regard to his play.
After the leg injury, things got a little difficult for”The Big Easy”.
He also holds the honor for being inducted in the 2011 World Golf Hall of Fame. His foundation, The Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation, is devoted to the youth that holds love for the game of golf and is dedicated to bring out the best of golfers from the
youth.
Ernie Els has seen a magical career and has seen his peak in the 1990’s, although his current form is alarming and is a cause of serious speculation among the fans and the world of golf regarding his future.
