Question:

Exercise/Injury Question?

Hi,

I started running again recently and have been running about 4-5 miles each time. The last two times I have had sharp pain in my big toe. I have been running though the pain (after visually seeing that nothing looked wrong with my toe). My sneakers are not new, and they are not that old either. They are not too small and fit me fine. Does anyone have any thoughts on why I might be having this pain?

  1. You said 'sneakers...'  are you running in running shoes, or some kind of cross trainer?

Shoes could easily be the root cause of this.

You may have ramped your mileage up a bit too fast.  It's best to back off and see how it responds to RICE treatment.

I would go to a running shoe store, and have them fit you.  Make sure you are in the right shoe for your feet.

If all else fails, visit your doctor to rule out stress fractures, tendon issues, etc.

  2. WELL maybe you need to run a little shorter a couple times and see if that helps and take Advil. that usually helps me. and if this doesnt work then go to a doctor if it still hurts.
