  1. Yes.  When you exercise without eating a little first, your liver will dump some of it's stored reserve of glucose into your blood stream to try and prevent low sugar.  Some days you may need more coverage.

  2. If you are a diabetic on insulin, meds exercising without eating will send your sugars down.Diabetics reduce their blood sugars by exercising.

Don't exercise without eating ,plus I find not eating regular meals and waiting till my sugars go to low I over indulge,

  3. Are you a diabetic? Are you on medication?

If you are a diabetic on insulin, exercising without eating will send your sugars plunging down.   Even if you're not on any meds, in general, diabetics reduce their blood sugars by exercising.  The exception is if you are already running very high blood sugars, so high that the added stress of exercise puts strain on your endocrine system so that it slows down even further, building up more glucose.

It's not a good idea to exercise without eating first for any diabetic. You need fuel for exercise.  You can definitely lose weight without having to resort to tricks like starving before a workout.

    .

Edit: Are you taking your fasting blood sugar first thing in the morning or counting after exercise?

Metformin is specifically for liver function, and it's supposed to inhibit that function that would release glucose into your system.

Morning blood sugars are devilishly difficult, no doubt about it. The advice they give diabetics is to eat right at bedtime - something with protein.  But that one never worked for me. What really works is a long-acting insulin.

  4. I would recommend you change your schedule a little and monitor any change. The schedule would be to take two readings in the morning. The first would be right after you get up in the morning, before eating or exercise. The second would be at you normal testing time.

The first reading would be your baseline, the second would be show the effect of exercise. Make adjustments from there.

    Best Wishes.
