Exercise and use of joints or bones: Will this make them bigger? and can bones shrink from lack of ?

Does frequent motion or frequent use of bones and joints make those joints and bones bigger, actually increase in size? And if the use is limited will they shrink once again from

the lack of exercise or lack of use ?

  1. Healthy joints seldom change size.  Most body functions atrophy in some way if not used.  Joints tend to calcify, muscles lose mass and their range of motion is reduced.  Bones lose calcium and become brittle.  Running and weight training are the best ways to maintain and increase bone density and strength.  The overall shape of the bones doesn't change.


  2. Exercise will definitely stop or slow bones from growing smaller  by osteoporosis.  The exercise must put force on the bones along the major axis of the bone.  The best exercises to deal with osteoporosis use weights.
