Exersaucer: why not allowed baby to stand flatfooted on the base?

Is there a reason why only baby's toes should touch the base? My son loves being there but we let his feet touch the base and he seems fine but can someone tell me why it is not recommended by the maker?

  1. My exersaucer says it reccomends that they stand only on their toes to get the most out of the jump feature.

My son prefers to stand flat footed though, and I've always let him, no harm done:)

  2. No, and in fact I have some issues with this because my 10-month old ONLY stands on his tip-toes now......I wish I wouldn't have listened to the manufacturer!!!  We're working on getting him to stand flat-footed.

  3. Because babies have been injured when doing so, it's a safety precaution.

  4. It's a safety issue - when the baby is tall enough to stand flat-footed, he could potentially tip or climb out of it, because the center of gravity would be off at that point.

  5. I have also heard not to let a baby stand on their feet while holding them up.. I have No idea why.. I dont listen.. Babies love it and I think it can only make their muscles stronger..

  6. I've never heard of that. I've always put it at a level where they can completely stand up on their own and the seat is around just to protect if he falls. I did that with my daughter too and she has had no problems so far (she'll be 4 in Nov.)
