Exeter Chiefs may buy more players
Exeter Chiefs coach Rob Baxter has more money to spend to bring new players into his squad.
The coach announced that he still could bring in a few more names after his most recent signing, Jason Shoemark, joined from Super 14 side the Highlanders this week.
The deal for the centre was concluded in July, but the New Zealander was not allowed to leave the Highlanders until the end of their domestic league.
Shoemark is the 10th player to join Exeter since they achieved promotion to the Aviva Premiership in May and Baxter did not rule out more signings.
Speaking to BBC Devon, Baxter said, "It's been difficult—but we can make the funds available, for potentially the right player. If we see the right guy and we think he's got the right qualities, then we can still put a decent package together at the moment."
Last week, Baxter secured the signing of Argentina out-half Ignacio Mieres as cover for Gareth Steenson.
Exeter has also recently brought in Australian forward Peter Kimlin, Sireli Naqelevuki from Western Province, and Samoan international scrum-half Junior Poluleuligaga.
Baxter is keen to strengthen his team even further in what will be a gruelling first season for the promoted side.
However, the Exeter coach was quick to state that the money he was given had to be spent wisely as the club tries to adapt to life in the Aviva Premiership.
"It's not so much that there's a pot of money there that needs spending, but that said we do feel that we've recruited well," said Baxter.
Exeter have acquitted themselves well since making their debut in the top flight of English rugby.
They are in 9th place in the league and have proved to be more than competitive with victories over Saracens, Newcastle and Gloucester so far this season.
