Exeter Chiefs in talks to sign Kimlin
Exeter is locked in talks to sign Australian forward Peter Kimlin on a short-term contract.
Kimlin has hardly played any rugby over the last 12 months after suffering nerve damage in his right shoulder. It's thought he is seeking a new challenge after a frustrating spell with ACT Brumbies.
"The last two weeks is probably the most excited I've been about playing for a long time, to have that chance to go overseas and play a totally different type of game. Hopefully it's going to strengthen
my game," said Kimlin.
Exeter head coach Rob Baxter has confirmed that negotiations with the player and his agent have started. However, the logistics of the move are huge and this means any deal will take a while to work out.
Kimlin will add a lot to the Exeter side through his skill and quality. It would be a very good move for the player who will be looking to improve on the two caps he's won for Australia so far.
Positive for the club
Exeter is the new team in the Premiership and can still make improvements to the playing squad. Kimlin is a very fit and fast player. This makes him ideal to play at the top of an attack for 80 minutes,
waiting for a single chance to score.
He plays with an energy and enthusiasm, which can rub off on the rest of the Exeter team. This should also help him to become popular quickly with the Exeter fans, players and staff.
Kimlin may feel as though he still has a lot to prove in rugby. The club will not have to motivate him because he'll have a determination that would have been growing all the time he couldn't play for
Brumbies.
Positives for the player
If Kimlin does join Exeter then he will join a Premiership side. The Premiership is one of the fastest leagues in Europe and the Australian's game will improve rapidly in fast paced conditions.
English teams move the ball very quickly and this means that players have to be very fit. There will be long spells when Kimlin doesn't have the ball and he is forced to do a lot of running without possession.
The Premiership also houses some of the best players in the world. Coaches have always said that the only way to improve is to play against bigger and better opponents because of what can be learnt.
Kimlin added: "Going from training so much, pretty much by myself down in Canberra, to having an opportunity to play some consistent footy, I'm quite lucky I think. It probably hasn't sunk in until I get
over there and play some week-in week-out footy, which isn't going to be easy footy as well it's going to be hard on the body which is what I need, seeing as I haven't played for 12 months."
Betting advice
Kimlin will inject some excitement and venom into the Exeter front line. He seems a very genuine and ambitious player who will do whatever it takes to play well for his club side.
He will be harbouring ambitions to play for Australia again. This means he is likely to play out of his skin for Exeter. Back him to score regularly in the Premiership. Have a punt on him being top scorer
at Exeter if the club can get a deal concluded quickly.
Exeter's chances of staying up this season are looking better all the time. The club is in a strong position and get a bet on the side to be safe before the odds shorten further.
