Exeter meeting to be decided after a precautionary inspection

A precautionary inspection will be carried out at Exeter in England on Sunday, February 12, 2012 in order to make sure that the conditions are good for racing.
The temperature at the venue is expected to drop down well below freezing point overnight, which will bring frost on the track. However, the local organisers are pretty much confident that the situation will be under control.
Unlike some other racecourses, the conditions in Exeter are not that bad for racing. The officials claim that the track has not been affected by cold weather until now, but they are concerned to some extent.
According to the clerk of the course, Barry Johnson, there could have been racing possible today, as the track had no problems. However, the forecast tells that mercury will drop down tonight, which might cause a few problems for the organisers.
According to Johnson, “We are fully raceable today and we had 6mm of rain overnight. The downside is that it is forecast to drop -6/-7C over the next couple of nights and that obviously brings the threat of frost. We decided to call the inspection
to keep everybody informed.”
The local fans will be hoping that the weather remains warm tomorrow morning, so that they are not deprived of some quality horse racing action.  However, they will have to wait for the inspection before the action begins on Sunday.
Considering the forecasted temperatures for tonight and tomorrow morning, things do not look very good for the Exeter meeting. Although the racecourse is not affected by frost at the moment, there is no guarantee that conditions will remain similar
until race day.
Most of the meetings which were subject to inspections over the past few days have been abandoned due to frozen tracks. The latest of them was Herford, which was cancelled after an inspection was carried out today.
The race clerk at Hereford revealed that that track was frozen and the conditions were expected to remain similar over the next couple of days. He added, “Temperatures are not due to rise that much during Saturday and it is expected to be minus two
overnight so we have succumbed to the inevitable.”
