Exfactor goes 3 up in 4 starts as he downed the Sugar Bowl field in emphatic style
Already a grade 3 winner, 2-year-old colt, Exfactor, after a 5 month layoff came back to extend his winning streak to 3 in as many starts in the $60,000 Sugar Bowl Stakes on 17 December, 2011, over a distance of six furlongs on dirt. Sugar Bowl managed to reel in seven colts for the race and it was restricted for 2-year-olds only at Fair Grounds race course.
The son of Exchange Rate, out of mare Bright Magic by Prized, Exfactor, ran his debut race at Churchill Downs on 14 May, 2011, over a distance of four and a half furlongs under jockey C Borel.
Exfactor wasn’t up to the mark at his first asking in his maiden special weight race, as he finished a close second to winner Sum of the Parts, who covered the distance in 51.03 seconds.
However, in one month’s time, Exfactor made all the wrongs right as he proved that he is serious about his racing career when he refused to dwell longer in maiden company and broke it in his second asking over a distance of five and a half furlongs at Churchill Downs on 9 June, 2011.
He covered the five and a half furlongs in 1 minute and 4.54 seconds and defeated Daddy Nose Best in second and Dullahan in third.
Staying at Churchill Downs for his third consecutive race, Exfactor was entered in the Grade 3 Bashford Manor Stakes at about six furlongs on dirt.
He responded well against graded stakes company and came back from behind to earn himself a grade 3 status on 2 July, 2011, defeating Power World and Friscan, who finished second and third, respectively, while Exfactor downed the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 10.30 seconds.
He is a star in the making, and anyone who saw him in the Bashford Manor could identify that, the way he dueled for the lead in the dying yards of the race.
Coming back to the races after a layoff he picked it up where he left from in the Sugar Bowl Stakes at Fair Grounds and his next big goal will be to run down the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby field, and if he does that then he will give his connections some serious exciting times.
