Exfactor to remain at Fair Grounds till the Kentucky Derby, as he starts off in the Lecomte Stakes on the long road to the Derby
The 2-year-old Bernard Flint trainee, Exfactor, is on a roll, not losing a single race since his debut race in his debut season puts him on the elite lineup of juvenile colts that have been able to put together a string of 3 race win streaks.
Already a grade 3 winner, Exfactor is exiting a victory in the Sugar Bowl Stakes on 17 December, 2011, held at Fair Grounds race course at about six furlongs.
Ridden by jockey S Bridgmohan, Exfactor fully extended in the Sugar Bowl, returned from a layoff since winning his grade 3 race, took apart the Sugar Bowl field in style and extended his unbeaten run to 3 in 4 career starts defeating Laurie’s Rocket in second
and Afford in third covering the six furlong distance in 1 minute 11.78 seconds.
The 2-year-old Stoneway Farm owned son of Exchange Rate, out of mare Bright Magic by Prized, Exfactor is on the Kentucky Derby track and he is going to run in a series of races before he goes to the big event.
In the near future, Exfactor is pointed toward the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes, run over a distance of 1 mile and 70 yards on dirt at Fair Grounds race course on 21 January, 2012, in company of 3-year-old males for the first time.
“He’s always been a good horse as far as controlling him,” said Bernie Flint, who trains Exfactor for owner Jim Stone. “He did well, came through on the fence, got stopped, came out, made his run, and won it.”
Probably Exfactor will be sent a month after the Lecomte Stakes to run in the Grade 2 Risen Star, also at Fair Ground race course and the race is extended over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 25 February, 2012, another race which is exclusive for 3-year-olds.
However, his big test and ultimate goal before the Kentucky Derby would be to run in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby on 1 April, 2011. If he goes on to run in the Louisiana Derby, then it will be longest he has ever gone, as the distance of the race is at about
1 1/8 miles at Fair Grounds.
