I'm putting my utrboback exhaust on my WRX tomorrow, and i was going to pick up some exhuast wrap. But i was wondering if it will come off, if lets say down the line I don't want it on there, or is it just a hassle? Also will it muffle the exhuast on the inside of the car or on the outside too??? Thanks in advance.

  1. Exhaust wrap by itself will come off fairly easily.  Theres a spray that you can buy that you spray on top of the exhaust wrap to really seal it which can be a bit messy but comes off as well.

The purpose for exhaust wrap is not to muffle sound.  Its to insulate the exhaust pipe to reduce the engine bay temperatures.

On a turbo charged car like the wrx or evo, keeping the intake air temperatures and the intercooler as cool as possible maximizes power by utilizing the cooler denser air.

On race cars we sometimes will get heat soak, where the intercooler gets really hot and causes the intake air to become very warm losing a great deal of power.

If you want your car to be quieter the turbo back exhaust will have the greatest effect on that.  Going from stock to aftermarket will make your car louder, without question.  removing the catalytic converter will also make it much much louder and smellier (and bad for the environment as well).

The plus side is you'll have more flow which will allow you to run a tuned map on your ecu allowing for more power or going with a turbo upgrade.

keep in mind when you initially install the exhaust wrap it'll really stink as you drive the first few miles.  this is just the wrap "curing" from the heat of the pipe.  After a few dozen miles the smell will go away.
