Question:

Exhaust System Rumble

I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota, and when I bought it it had a very nice set of dual exhaust chrome tip pipes. It also had a nice rumble to it. Now here is where the problem lies. I want the rumble gone without putting a whole new exhaust on it. Because I can't exactly sneek out with it in this current condition, and I don't like people hearing me 500 miles down the street. So does anyone know how to make it go away without a new exhaust?

  1. Well you could either buy a larger muffler (the larger the quieter) or you could purchase a couple of resonators and put them in-between your muffler and your tips. A resonator would likely quiet it down a noticeable bit, but not too bad. And it may be cheaper than buying new mufflers. Here's a link to get you an idea of what you might need. Good luck.

  2. No the whole point of the exhaust is for it to do that

I would suggest getting a double stack cuz it looks sick.  It might also be in the engine have it checked out.

  3. change your exhaust tips from megaphones to straight or flat tips

  4. you can change just the mufflers on it and make it quiten down some, but with duals on it you will still get a small amount of rumble to it but not as much, using a muffler closer to a stock one will probably take the rumble out of it and make it less noticeable ,but it wont quiten it down all the way,but enough that you wont notice it that much,if it has headers on it though it may bog it down some, good luck with it.
