For instance Say you took the 50 best from both sides that you could find and pit the striker team against the striker team who would win? That is just a suggestion. How bout someone who can't strike but a great grappler fights the the great striker who can't grapple. If there is no answer then just disect the question. 10 points promised to the best answer

  1. Stop using UFC 1 as  a benchmark.  Those were professional grapplers against amateur strikers.  Usually, Pro > Amateur, no matter what it is.

Also, these days the best in both camps is going to know something about the other style.  Lots of these guys who are coaching "grappling" started their martial arts careers off as "strikers".  Not only that, contest rules tend to favor grapplers.  You don't allow eye gouges and deadly nerve strikes or soft tissue strikes, which are within the realm of striking were you to allow strikers to use all weapons in the arsenal.

You would have to put people in a bubble from birth in order to get this experiment to truly work.

Read some older books on Jujitsu where they talk about how lethal "atemi"---striking---can be.

There is no real answer to this question.  The best fighter will train both, while favoring one over the other due to the needs of his or her body.

  2. I would say in the scenario of a great grappler who can't strike vs. a great striker who can't grapple, I would give the advantage to the striker.. Because if he really is that great of a striker, he would keep a good distance between him and his opponent and would be able to accurately pick him apart with quick jabs, leg kicks, etc. to where the grappler won't have a chance for a take down.  If the grappler gets the striker in a clinch, great strikers would still be able to unlease knees and elbows in a clinch position.

  3. this has been tested and answered decisively many times, the most well known was at UFC 1 in 1993, and the answer is pretty much always the same, when its pure grappler vs pure striker the grappler wins 99% of the time

  4. if the strikers have no grappling exp. and the grapplers have no striking experience I'm going with the grapplers. We saw it in several ufc events, its to hard to KO the grappler before they get you to the ground.

  5. I would think the striker because a grappler would to be in close to his opponent before he couold utilize any of his moves, while a striker can keep his distance.

  6. in my opinion i think the strikers would win cause they can strike and run.....but the grabs can be intensive
