is there a way to wire an exit sign to a plug for an outlet receptacle?

  1. Fire codes in most places require it to be hardwired in an emergency circuit or to have a battery back up good for four hours.  


  2. First off, "Aurthur A's" answer is composed of several NEC violations; he may be going to electrical h**l, if he doesn't shape up.

    Second, you did not say if this is a required exit sign. If it is, then you will need a licensed electrical contractor to install it; as most jurisdictions will not allow work in anything but the owner's principle dwelling to be done by unlicensed personel.

  3. Yes just get an electrical cord with a plug at the end and wire it up. White on white and black on black with wire nuts If you have only the wire with no plug you can buy one  and put it together, it's easy to do in the plug the same thing one white wire goes on one s***w and the other s***w you put the black. It makes on differance what wire goes to what s***w only the ground if you have one, which is colored green that goes to the ground s***w.
