  1. Leave it on all the time sweetie. You should have a warm side to your tank and a cooler side. When it's hot though make sure with your hand that it won't burn you....it can burn their bellies easily...cover it with bedding so his belly is protected. They need what they call a basking area. That's where his heat rock will go. Make sure it's covered sweetie.

    Good Luck!

  2. dont use a heat rock they can cause burns on your reptile.  if you need more heat in the tank you need an under tank heater.   if you just need to add a little bit of heat get one that is a little small for your tank and leave it on 24/7 and just turn the heat lamp on and off as normal.  good luck.

  3. dont listen to epps never ever use a heat rock they can burn your snake really bad. buy a higher watt light bulb like a 75 watt

  4. as many have already said, dont use heat rocks. if your dragon lays on it too long, it can cause burns on its belly. get an under tank heater and leave that on. sorry i pretty much repeated everything other people said but now you know its important.

    good luck!

  5. if you want to use a heat rock, first thing you should do is cut the cord. then unplug it. they cause severe burns, and shouldn't be used by anybody for anything, except a basking spot, with cord removed, of course. some come with thermostats, but an undertank heater is better.

  6. Loose the heat rock. They're terrible things that will burn your lizard, malfunction and create concentrated heat spots. Instead, invest in an UTH to supply aditional heat, smaller if the differene isn't that much. Get a dimmer to go with it so you can control temps.

  7. Take out the heat rock ASAP. They can seriously burn your beardie and even kill him if you are not careful.

  8. I think that I will be the only person to say that heat rocks can be used safely if you know how. Yes, once plugged in and on you can leave them on unless you notice the overall temp in the tank rising too much. Get an old sock and wrap the heat rock enough times to where u can still feel some heat penetrate the sock. This covering by the sock will allow your lizard to get the benefit of the heat but cannot directly touch the surface of the rock which is what burns them.  I have used one for the last seven years in two different tanks and not a single lizard was burned. It's all about keeping them safe.
