Question:

Exotic Cheese and Wine suggestions, please?

A friend of mine is having an exotic cheese and wine party for his birthday. He's asked guests to provide one of each to share. I personally can't eat cheese, and I'm not too fond of wine (except for this particular dessert ice wine). So I'm turning to you guys.

Can any of you make any suggestions on what I should bring? Please include a name, description of flavor, where I can get it, and approximate cost. Hopefully something not too hard to find and not too costly. Thanks!

  1. Some Italian matchings for you:

Wash rind cheese, strong taste and flavour, cow milk, with strong important red wines (this is my favourite and should not be to costly): es. Taleggio cheese - Teroldego

Blue cheese with passito wines: es. Gorgonzola-Recioto di Soave (also this one is very very particular... Sometimes in Italy we use gorgonzola at the end of a dinner, together with this sweet dessert wines)

Fresh creamy cheese, with a white aromatic wine:

    es. Robiola di Roccaverano -Verdicchio

Sheep milk, semi hard cheese, with red wine with good structure: es. Fiore Sardo-Morellino di Scansano

Semi-pasteurized cheese, with strong flavour, with Middle matured red wine:

    es. Fontina-Valpolicella Classico

Hard seasoned cheese, with red well structured wines:

es. Parmigiano Reggiano-Barolo (this one could be too expensive..)

  2. Vintage Port ($30 and upward )

    Blue Stilton Cheese

    Nut Bread- a quick bread

Fresh Ripe Pear slices(make sure you cut fresh and dip in acidified water)
