  1. Something like a aligator= caiman

    blue toungued skinks are cool

  2. Get a water moniter, their awesome. plus they are kind of a mix of an alligator, large lizard/iguana thing!

  3. The bluetongue skink would be a good starter for you.  I have one and they are great.  They get about 2 feet long and can live in a 40 gallon tank without a problem.  I have mine on sand and have all the lights that you need. He will sit at his water bowl and drink for 10 mintues straight.  You will have to be careful with the diet so they don't get a vitamin deficency like mine did.  Yura didn't have enough vit A or C and required vitamin shots from the vet for 3 weeks.  In order to avoid that happening the vet told us to continue with the diet we were feeding him: a little canned cat food, different meats we cooked, cooked eggs (samonella risk is lowered with cooking them) crickets, superworms, but to add an occasional salad (mine doesn't really care for them though) with kale, dandeleon, mustard greens, collared grens, tomatoes (good for vit c), carrots, and other fruits and veggies once or twice a week depending on how much of the sald he eats. We also we told to start feeding him a pinkie or hopper once a week. The vet called them "complete meal packages" and after a little change in diet he was better in 3 weeks verus the up to 3 months the vet thought it could take.  You would also want to give them a humid hide to help with sheds, take a tupperware container that will fit the lizards and be able to fit int he tank (with a top) cut a hole in it so the lizard can get in, fill with damp spagum moss, you will need to dampen the moss every ther day or so.  www.bluetongueskinks.net is a gret resource to check out.

Personally unless you have room for a VERY LARGE cage I would stay away from the big monitors, they aren't really for the inexpeienced anyway. Savannah, water, nile(are illegal in NY) monitors all grow over 6 feet, iguanas also get this big.  A decent number of the larger montiors and tegus are known for not being the friendliest lizards either and their diet constists mostly of rodents.

  4. YOURE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A SNAKE BUT AN ALLIGATOR IS OK?

    are you serious?

  5. Ive seen kamen for sale in pet stores. there like small alligators.

  6. The first animal you list is a major carnivore... then you go on to mention an herbivore... you need to figure out what kind of diet you want to feed your potential new pet, then work from there. Oh and even though you may be able to come across a caiman or even an alligator depending on where you live, if you're not allowed to have a snake, I doubt they'll allow an alligator, and trust me, you don't want a caiman. Gators are ill-tempered enough, caimans are worse. If you want to own a potentially ill-tempered reptile that can reach sizes of at least 6 feet, go with an iguana, their teeth aren't as sharp.

  7. I hope you're not serious about keeping an alligator, as they are very aggressive animals and illegal to own. I believe blue tongued skinks are illegal as well, but not sure. But an iguana may be fine.

  8. Please do NOT get an alligator.  Depending on where you live they may be illegal.  These reptiles get very large and when they are full grown you will not be able to feed it properly unless you have an empty room with a partially submerged pool.  These animals usually end up in zoos and zoos really dont need anymore donations of alligators.  Iguanas also get large and a full grown iguana can actually break a dogs leg with its tail if it gets upset.  Imagine what it could do to you.  They also can chase and bite.  They run very fast.  They are also great escape artist.  I would get a blue tongued skink.  They are great pets.  Just make sure you get a good care sheet from the internet.  Reptiles need the correct lighting, heating, and food.  You must make the reptile feel he is in his "homeland".  Not in a fish tank with artifical lights.  Just do your homework.  I think if you are a beginner start with a leopard gecko.  These guys are great and easy keepers.  I love reptiles...but I also respect them....have fun with whatever you choose!!
