Expansion Draft pick Brian Ching still reluctant to relocate to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montreal-Impact-c39946 – MLS News
With the conclusion of 2011 Major League Soccer season, clubs have begun the process of strengthening their squads for the 2012 edition. The first club to make the moves in the 2011 Expansion Draft is Montreal Impact.
In the draft, the Impact manager, Jesse Marsch, picked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Houston-Dynamo-c39542 as a calculated risk move.
“It’s unfortunate that he’s the one who has to pay the price for decisions that were made by the organizations,” Ching’s agent Richard Motzkin told the media. “It’s not a good situation for anyone right now.”
Marsch took the opportunity and picked Ching as his first choice. However, Motzkin has revealed that the US international is still reluctant in relocating to Montreal.
On the other hand, Jesse made a blunt move in drafting Ching despite knowing his intentions of staying with the Dynamo.
“Ching has made it clear he doesn’t want to be here, but we value him,” Marsch told the media. “I think there are teams in the league that value him. He’s a valuable guy. I want to still include what’s best for Brian in his future, but I also have to include
what’s best for our club.”
Moreover, Motzkin also mentioned Ching’s plan of retiring earlier. Prior to the post-season, the Dynamo skipper announced his retirement after 2011 MLS play-offs. However, before the MLS Cup final he took back the decision showing his intentions of playing
one season at Houston’s new home turf, Dynamo Stadium, before hanging up his boots.
Ching’s selection in the draft raised some questions in the MLS circles. Looking at Ching’s injury prone condition and his age, 36, the decision of including him as first striker might prove to be a wrong decision on Marsch’s part.
The player scored only 5 goals in the 2011 season and remained at the sidelines for most of the time because of various injuries.
Moreover, there has been no effort observed from Houston’s side in retaining their star striker, who is one of the original Dynamos who moved from San Jose to Houston in 2006.
