Expect Ichiro Suzuki and New York Yankees to reach an agreement soon – MLB News
As the New York Yankees look forward to signing a deal with the Kevin Youkilis, former Boston Red Sox third baseman who is unhappy with the one year $12 million offer, progress has been made toward finalizing a deal with outfielder Ichiro Suzuki.
The Japanese born hitter had a great time on the plate last season After moving to New York as part of a mid season trade, Ichiro showed the Yankees the stuff he is capable of, hitting an excellent .322 average with 27 RBI’s and 14 stolen bases in 67 games.
Ichiro is expected to sign on a one year contract with the Yankees by the end of this week, reports nj.com. If the rumours are true, the Yankees will have outfielder of Curtis Granderson in centre, Suzuki in right and Brett Gardner in left. With three left
handed hitters in the outfield, it will not be surprise if the Yankees seek a right hander outfielder to add some depth to their batting lineup.
With Cleveland Indians, who was the other Major League Baseball team interested in Youkilis, signing Mark Reynolds to a one year contract, it seems the path for Youkilis has been cleared and he could also agree to terms with the Yankees before the start
of next year.
“Youk has always been a tough out,” Rodriguez said about Youkilis in an interview. “He’s a tough player, he’s a guy that’s a winning player. Whatever the franchise wants to do, I think that would be a good move for us.”
“Everything stays on the field. I’ve gotten a chance to talk to him and he’s a nice guy. I’ve had a chance to meet him at the All-Star Game, and he always seemed cool in talking with everybody There’s some guys that, the way they play the game,” Robinson
Cano said.
In an interview with a leading sports website, Youkilis’ agent Joe Bick stated that Youkilis considers Yankees’ offer a good one but he is weighing it against several other offers before making a decision. According to sources, Los Angels Dodgers and Seattle
Mariners could offer him a two year deal.
