Expect no wonders at SPA, says Michael Schumacher
The seven times F1 world champion, Michael Schumacher has not had an ideal comeback to the sport. Although, he had warned his fans before the season started that not to expect wonders from him but still, there was an immense build up and expectations as the Phenomenon known as Michael Schumacher was reintroduced to the F1 world. He has pretty much won everything there is in the sport. With countless records in F1, he can say ‘been there done that’. After calling it a day, he almost made it back 3 years later when his former team mate Felipe Massa encountered an unfortunate accident in the Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying during 2009. There was news that Schumacher may step in for his former team till the end of the season. On this, his fans all around the world held their breaths in expectation. However, he pulled out at the last moment; the reason was believed to be his neck. Michael had been in a bike accident earlier that year, and his neck had not recovered fully. When he tested himself in an F1 car, he said his neck could not take the throttle, so the plug was pulled on a dramatic comeback.
Despite this the seed of a comeback was placed in his brain, and his old friend and former boss Ross brawn persuaded him to make his way back into the sport. The duo go way back, Brawn was the team principal at Ferrari when Schumacher was on an insane spree of winning world titles. The pair had enjoyed great success at Ferrari and Brawn told Schumacher that he would make sure that it is a smooth transition for him back to the F1 tracks. However, the comeback for Michael has been less than ideal.
Now ahead of the Spa grand Prix, Schumacher has once again said that even though he has won 6 times at this circuit he should not be expected to do the same this time. The German will go into the Spa Circuit with 10 gird place penalty. Earlier, he was fined by the race stewards at the Hungarian Grand Prix when he, in an effort to go past his former Ferrari team mate Barichello, nearly pushed his car into the concrete wall. The maneuver was deemed dangerous and Michael was given a 10 place penalty.
So now already with a handicap of 10 places, there shouldn’t be many expectations left. This would be the 13th race of the season, and Michael surprisingly has not been able to reach the podium even once. It would be only the 2nd time he has not been able to do that in such a long time. Back in 1993, when Schumacher was in his 2nd season he didn’t win any races for 13 GPS. He was driving for Benetton at the time. But Schumacher remarked that regardless of everything, just going back to SPA circuit would be great for him. He has great memories there and would love to relive them by putting on a great performance. He added that he needs patience from his fans, and next season would be a whole different story.
