Expectations from Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen rises even further as first gameplay video revealed
Chris Roberts can easily be regarded as one of the most legendary game creators that the industry has ever seen.
He showed off his magic in Wing Commander and Freelancer, two of the most memorable space simulators for the PC, which ended up earning him a huge fan base and making him one of the biggest names in the genre.
After take a break from his video game passion to work on a few Hollywood projects, Roberts returned back to the industry that he knew so well, getting ready to mesmerise the gaming community yet again with his space trading and combat simulator, Star Citizen.
Describing the game as something that would push even the most powerful PCs to their limit, Roberts appears to be as much excited about the project as his fans, who are expecting nothing short of a stunning game from the man who has not let them down in
the past.
Though there are still at least a couple of years left for the game to hit the market, the first gameplay footage of the game has been revealed on its Kickstarter page a few days back.
The video features pilot artificial intelligence (AI) that has weaved into the game, which is being designed specifically for high-end PCs.
Even though the gameplay video is impressive, Roberts has made it clear that it is nothing more than a rough idea of what his development team at Cloud Imperium Games plans on doing.
According to him, there are still plenty of effects that will be added to the game before it is finally release.
“The laser effects, explosions are all placeholders and there will be significant work done here, as well as some very cool shield effects I have cooking up in the background," Roberts said. "My goal with the visual effects is to use a lot the techniques
and looks used in film work, which are now possible with DX11 and modern day PCs.”
Roberts conceded that despite creating AI in the past, none of them had been as sophisticated as the one that he is currently in the process of developing.
Despite being in the initial stages of its development, Star Citizen already has the fans of the genre trembling with excitement.
In order to hold on to his freedom of creativity, Roberts has opted to go for private funding of the project instead of getting associated with some big publisher such as Electronic Arts (EA) or Activision.
He explained his decision by pointing out that the unforgiving nature of gamers have led majority of the publishers to invest in ideas that have already proven to be in demand and therefore keeps milking them instead of welcoming or promoting innovation.
Determined to create an AAA hardcore experience exclusively for PC, Roberts is looking to make the most of the state-of-the-art technology to present a game that is visually stunning and unleashes the true capability of PC.
Looking at raising a target fund of $2 million, Cloud Imperium Games has already gone beyond the $1 million mark. The funds were initially being raised through the game’s official website, but the process was later shifted to the crowd-funding website Kickstarter.
Do you feel that all the hype surrounding the latest project by Roberts is justified or are you expected to come across a disappointing experience when the game releases in 2014-2015? Use the comments section below to share your opinion with us.
