Expected Family Contribution Question (EFC)?

I live in a house hold with my mom and step dad, brother and sister, and cousin. My sister had a baby (the baby lives with us) a little while back and receives nothing for her except wic. Will rthe baby affect the (EFC) for Financial aid? Will the baby effect financial aid in any way?

  1. the efc is your expected family contribution. if your mom and step dad provide for the child and claim the child on taxes then the baby will be added. if your sister takes care of her child then theres no need to add the baby. its only for those that your parents provide 50% or more for. for example, i live with my mother and have a child but she doesnt take car eof me or my child. i have 2 for my household.


  2. If your parents are contributing 50% or more of the baby's living expenses, then that baby can be claimed on the FAFSA as living in the household. This will lower your EFC.
