Expecting a package while out of town?

I'm expecting a package while I'm out of town. Will UPS/FedEx hold the package for me if I'm not at the door? It's a valuable item, so I don't want to leave it outside for the whole week.

  1. Yes.  Both UPS and FedEx (also DHL) will leave you a note saying that they attempted delivery.  Note, though, that they will usually attempt delivery only 3 times before returning the item to the sender.

I would advise you to leave a note saying when you will return and ask them to attempt delivery then.  Alternatively, you can ask them to hold the package at their local warehouse and let you pick it up then.  Either way, you should let them know not to try and keep delivering it, else they'll give up after a few tries and return it.
