Expense Claim emerges victorious from the Blue Square London Gold Cup at Newbury
Andrew Balding’s, Expense Claim, delivered a beyond brilliant performance in the Blue Square London Gold Cup at Newbury on 19th May, 2012, where he raced with a chance of 7-1, and was mounted by rider, Jimmy Fortune.
The son of Intikhab, out of mare Indolente, completed his well-deserved hat-trick in this race, as he took the track by storm and defeated the Mark Johnston trained, Hajras, by 2 lengths.
Hajras, son of Dubai Destination, out of mare Nufoos, tried the best he could, but could not make up for the lost ground, which gave the winner a clear run, and he broke through the wire first without any obstacles, unthreatened by the rest of the
competitors.
Clayton, who is under the training of Kevin Ryan, finished third, a commendable performance as he fell 2 ¼ lengths adrift of the runner-up.
Jimmy Fortune, the winning rider, was pleased with his runner as he later commented that: "I thought it was good performance. He's got quite a high cruising speed for a big horse."
This was Expense Claim’s third victory which has raised his esteem among his connections.
The bay gelding delivered an outstanding performance in the Betdaq Mobile Apps Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Kempton, where he raced as a favourite with the winning odds of 5-4.

He maintained his lead on the Sir Michael Stoute trained, Pistol, and secured the victory.
The young runner carried the same momentum into Salisbury, where he was mounted by jockey, Liam Keniry.
With his brisk pace, he downed the victory in an impressive manner as he finished a neck before, Perfect Delight, in the Betfred Goals Galore Handicap on 6thMay, 2012.
Since trainer Andrew Balding was at Newmarket, his wife Anna Lisa discussed his future plans and stated to the press that:
"That was thrilling as he's a lovely horse and is so genuine. He was in good form at home and we were hopeful, but it was a big step up and he has done it.
"I hope I won't be shot saying we will go to Royal Ascot for the King George V Handicap now."
