  1. well i graduated n 1980 and was in college from 1980 to 1984 and it was very expensive then but half of what u r talking maybe about 1200 and back then we were crying but clothing and food was the highest and just everyday living including toiletries, like hair care, and just everyday items of survival

  2. We cannot blame expenses in college, i also spend a lot in my college, if i converted my tuition fee it costs me more than $ 3,800 per year excluding my school needs and allowance. Some college courses really spend a lot of cash so you should be thankful that you're having college life (some just ends their study during highschool). I guess if you really wish to thrift money, you should try getting yourself a scholarship or any form of agency that will help you loosen your college expenses.

There are several ways to thrift money:

if you are into food avoid too much fastfood restaurants and find any cheaper but clean alternative of food stalls.

You may also pack yourself with food although in college it's very unusual to carry packed lunches but some countries like Japan, even workers and college students still carry their lunch boxes (it's efficient and saves a lot).

You may also get yourself a part time job if you can balance your schedule in school and work, having part time jobs will give you some benefits especially if you work in restaurants that gives free food during your work.

Just avoid spending too much and study hard, studying is really expensive but if you land yourself a nice job sooner or later it will compensate your efforts.

  3. I found that I was spending money on things I didn't really plan on spending money on-- not being frivolous, just having unanticipated expenses, like needing to buy an extra blanket when the heat ran out. Keep some extra just in case. You should also count gas and/or public transportation expenses, which can be crazy.
