Expensive Health Insurance?

I am a healthy 21 year old. I've only had one surgery my whole life (wisdom teeth extraction, which wasn't covered by my health insurance). I've never had any major health problems ever. I pay $153 a month for health insurance (I pay $459 every 3 months). Is this expensive for somebody my age? I have Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield. Is this good health insurance. Dental is not covered in my policy.

  1. Well its true dental insurance isn't covered, there are different policy options you can add to help with the cost of dental though. $153 for a healthy 21 year old is ok but I actually sell policies for $50,000 coverage under $100 a month for someone your age. I work with United American Insurance, its a great company.

  2. It depends on where you live. Is sounds kinda high for most states. Call a local agent.  An experienced agent can educate you about your options, and help you find one that best fits your needs. Also, be open minded about an HSA type of policy.

  3. I don't know if that's a good price because you only say you are 21 and little else.

I am way older and have never had to have any surgery so I don't know how insurance companies would consider your case.

My brother is 22 and he pays about $100 but there's no point in comparing you to my brother for you to know if you pay too much or too little for what you get.

The logical thing to do is to SHOP around, GET some 25 quotes, and KNOW exactly what the market is offering YOU and at WHAT price.

THEN act on that information, EG: CHANGE INSURANCE or STAY with Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield.

    Some on-line quoting services are:

and you'll find tons more in google.

  4. Nope, that's a good price, low end of average.

Dental is never covered under health insurance.
