I have to change preschool of my 3 year old as we are not happy with his present school. How can we prepare him for this change? He is excited right now about moving but later on might start missing his favourite teachers and friends in present school. How do we handle it?

  1. Hire a personal preschool teacher in a one on one basis as charged per hour until prepared for the regular school.

  2. I had to for the same thing with my 3 year old son because we moved to a new area of the city.  We took him a few days before he started and let him meet his new teachers and get familiar with the new toys and different areas.  For the most part it's been a good transition but on some days he cries when he gets out of the car and doesn't want to go in.  Once he's there, he's OK so I think it's a separation thing between him and I and nothing to do with the daycare/preschool.  But I keep my eyes and ears open to make sure he is enjoying himself.  Every day I ask him about what he learned and what he did.

  3. Could you talk to the director of the current preschool and explain his condition?  Do you have or can you get a note from the doctor and take it with you?  This seems easier than changing.  How long is he at school?  3x a day outside seems a lot to me, unless he has a really long day there. I would encourage you to attempt to have the school make modifications for him before you leave.  It would probably be better if he could keep the relationships he's developed.

  4. kids have a short memory, he will ask but you can talk him through it. Don't make a big deal out of it and he won't either.
