Experienced All Blacks prop Tony Woodcock hopeful for 2011 Rugby World Cup spot
All Blacks and New Zealand’s Super Rugby Franchise Blues international prop, Tony Woodcock, is looking forward to making his place in the squad for the upcoming 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) for the All Blacks.  Earlier over the weekend, certain segments of
the media reported that Woodcock was doubtful to participate in the upcoming 2011 RWC because of his foot injury.
Blues doctor Stephen Kara on Monday, June 27 categorically denounced the reports in the media regarding Woodcocks foot injury and the required treatment. Certain segments of the press and electronic media reported that doctors have recommended Woodcock undergo
a surgery that will potentially rule him out of contention for a spot in the All Blacks 2011 RWC squad.
Stephen Kara commented on the requirement of surgery and stated that, “He (Woodcock) does not need surgery for his current problem.”
Commenting further on the foot injury of the international prop Woodcock, Kara said, “If he continues to get pain in his foot down the track [surgery] may be considered, but that is something that is at the end of World Cup, not prior to it.”
Kara also confirmed that neither Blues nor All Blacks will risk of playing an unfit Woodcock as this might worsen the injury. Kara however, hinted that they’ll try to given some time out to the injured prop that will help him recover from his injury. He
said, “The plan is designed so he (Woodcock) gets game-time under his belt and he returns for the All Blacks.”
Kara further expressed his concerns on the media reports and termed them inappropriate. He added that, such media reports will put pressure on Woodcock. He added, “I don't think that's helpful to Tony because that puts more pressure on him, but it's also
incorrect.”
The 30-year-old Woodcock has expressed confidence that he will recover from the injury in 3- 4 weeks time and will be available to play in the upcoming All Blacks international and pre-World Cup preparations.
Helensville born Woodcock has played 74 international games for the All Blacks since his debut in 2002 against Wales. He has earned himself a reputation as the world’s best loose head prop.
Blues will take on the 2011 super xv combined table leaders Reds at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on Saturday, July 2 in the first semi-final of the 2011 Super Rugby Championship.
