ok now- i'll call my self an experienced BF mom as i am nursing my son who is almost 17 months. i have an issue though. i have a small lump underneath my areola that hurts when My son is nursing from that side. i thought it was a clogged duct but now i'm not so sure- i've noticed it a few days now and i've tried everything to make it go away and it won't. it is a very hard round lump about the size of i'd say slightly smaller than a raisin. i've tried to express mroe milk warn shower breast messages with more nursing on that despite the fact that it hurts when he nurses on that side. does it sound like a clogged duct or something else, i as thinking it might me a cyst or something. BTW my b*****s don't hurt other that when he sucks and puts pressure on that spot. and please not comments like go to the doc

  1. Someone sent me this link in an email about a week ago.  I just thought I'd share it.  I'm sure you just have a plugged duct or something like that but just in case, it's worth a look.  Good luck!

  2. I agree it sounds like a cyst.

You could be very brave and stick a needle in it and see if there is liquid in it, but many cysts are solid.  Often cysts go away on their own, I think.

  3. Try going without a bra for a few days whenever possible and drink a ton more water. Massage it whenever possible.

And I know you said don't mention the doc, but I had a friend who had to go to the doctor for 2 plugged ducts. They had to have them drained because nothing else worked : ( They were in a spot that was hard for her to relieve the ducts.

I can't think of anything else that it would be... it might be a cyst but since you are breastfeeding I wouldn't think it would be.. and if it were breast cancer the area would most likely be red and inflamed I would think.

  4. it sound like you may have a clogged duct or an infection

  5. I'm not a breast feeder, but I wanted to clear up something a person above me wrote.....

Breast cancer does not hurt, and it does not get red and inflamed. Quite the opposite. A lot of the time women don't find breast cancer lumps until after they have grown to a bigger size, just for the fact it doesn't hurt. My mother had two cysts last summer, and the pain was very bad. As soon as she walked in, the doctor said, "well, if it hurts, it's not cancer."

Just wanted to clear that up. Since it *does* hurt with stimulation, my guess would be cyst.
