So, this is my first time spending serious money on makeup...I used to just use eyeliner and lipgloss when i go out, but now I just turned 16, and I decided to stock up serious real cosmetics for the first time (before school starts) I got :

♥ 2 Maybelline eyeliners (one brown & one purple)

♥ Covergirl Lash Blast mascara

♥ Makeup brushes

♥ Vichy foundation (for acne prone skin, thus more expensive)

♥ A Rimmel 3 Color Eyeshadow Quad

♥ A packet of sponge wedges

and it came up to 78 bucks!! I was shocked coz it was the first time buying cosmetics for me... For experienced cosmetic wearers, is this too much for the first time stocking up on makeup?? Did i spend a little too much??

p/s: I'm planning for those makeup to last for about 3 or 4 months or more...

Please and thanks so much! :D

  1. No, actually that's really good for all that.  Sometimes you can buy one stick of eyeliner for $30 alone.  You did good.

  2. No you didn't go overboard. I spend that alone on foundation.

  3. just saw something on here and wanted to put in my two cents about the purple eye liner--i use it frequently and love it! i have brown eyes and sometimes wear eyeshadows in shades of purple and it looks great. and you don't wear make up to match your outfits, you wear it to accentuate your facial features. so don't let that bother you!

btw i don't think you spent too much, like some of these other women said, looks like you got the basics.

  4. Yes! You spent way too much!! Not because of the amount, but what you spent it on. If you listed higher class make up lines, I wouldn't have been surprised. But if you spent that much on maybelline, covergirl, and rimmel products, you spent way too much. Those brands are not worth that kind of money. If you're gonna spend that kind of money, you might as well spend it on higher quality cosmetics.

  5. nooooo.

& your 16, not at all hahaha

  6. It seems like a bit much. Plus, the purple eyeliner....what will that match. You'll barely probably use it. You don't need "Vichy" foundation, it seems to be a bit on the expensive side... just use some drug store brand like Covergirl or Max Factor. I got all my makeup at Meijers, I got more than double the amount of makeup then you, it all works great, and I only spent a little over 25 bucks for all of mine. Return it get some of the cheaper brands.

    Tips:

You only need one mascara (black or brown whichever suits you better).

The brand N.Y.C (available at Walmart and Meijers) has wonderful stuff (but don't buy the mascara, its terrible) and everything is usually 3 bucks or cheaper.

Get a Variety Pack of brushes at your drugstore or grocery store. They tend to be cheaper then buying all the brushes single. All you need is a foundation brush if it's liquid. A Kabushki (or however you spell it) brush if its powder, and a dome shaped eyeshadow brush.

Make sure your eyeshadow are sort of neutral (gold, greys, whites, blacks, browns) so that they match EVERYTHING. You don't need a whole packet of sponge wedges. You only need one if your foundation didn't already come with one. If the foundation came with one, the ones that come with it seem to work totally fine.

  7. I say you did a pretty good job for your first real cosmetics.

You have your basics : mascara, eyeliner, foundation, eyeshadow and brushes.

Makeup brushes are the key to any flawless apllication so i hope you bought good ones even if you had to splurge a bit,

and a good foundation no matter the price is a must,

And i think this will last you 3-5 months, just remember that a little goes a long way in all areas of makeup application.

    HAve fun with your makeup:)

  8. Well, eh. I spend about 80 bucks sometimes, and that's just on a foundation.

  9. I second anchored's answer! I have green eyes and purple is great for me. I don't think you spent too much - the brushes are not something you will have to replace every couple months as long as you take care of them (i wash mine in baby shampoo and air dry once every week or so).

  10. no that sounds about the right price for that much

    lol

    i was shocked too
