Experienced San Diego Padres’ players feature in Arizona Diamondbacks – MLB News
It looks like the Kevin Towers will have six experienced former San Diego Padres’ players in the Arizona Diamondbacks during Spring Training.
These players will definitely add some massive experience to the Diamondbacks during the Spring Training session. These players were brought in by the former San Diego Padres’ general manager Kevin Towers, who is now the general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Players like Russell Branyan, Sean Burroughs, Geoff Blum, Henry Blanco and Xavier Nady are all a part of the Diamondbacks now and all the credit goes to Towers for bringing them from the Padres. After spending 16 years with the Padres, Towers finally joined
the Diamondbacks.
Through his extensive contacts and relationship with some former Padres players, he has managed to bring six into the Diamondbacks.
"These are character guys, veterans that I knew would have a strong presence in our clubhouse," Towers said. "I knew what their intangibles are, which I thought was important. We wanted to change the culture. Makeup and character was paramount in constructing
this club. When you have history with individuals, you know what they're about as well."
Bringing experienced players that he has worked with in the past, Towers will be able to build a quality team around them and build confidence in the team. Most of these players are excited be given a new life line to play baseball for another top tier team
like the Diamonbacks. Towers’ strategy could pay-off as the addition of these experienced players will definitely enhance the younger players’ performance in team.
The Diamondbacks have a perfect opportunity with Towers to build a new and exciting team which will have both experienced and young players in the mix. Most top tier teams in the League usually have a good balance of both type of players and this time the
Diamondbacks may have gotten it right.
As Spring Training is beginning, it will be interesting to see how Towers manages to combine these former Padres players into a solid unit for Arizona. It is obvious by these moves that the Diamondbacks are looking at ways to improve their record and have
the ability to compete with some of the top teams in the League.
The Diamondbacks will be looking to Towers to guide them to a successful Spring Training session and a decent regular season. Arizona wants a post-season spot and bringing in Towers and some of these experienced players will definitely be an interesting
sight. Only time will tell if Towers will be able to take the Diamondbacks to some sort of success during the regular season as they face off with other top teams.
