  1. I LOVE A CHALLENGE!

    I'm a pest control professional and have experience with nearly all roaches (haven't seen any brown-banded or cuban roaches yet, but they're pretty uncommon).

    First, not all roaches are the same and not all roaches can be treated for the same.

    Second - none of these will work:

    Boric Acid

    Roach Motels

    Essential Oils

    Baking Soda

    Bay Leaves

    Cinnamon

    Baby Powder

    So - the first thing to determine is what kind of roach is giving you problems... ah... but also what type of building it's in... lets do that part first.

    Here's the building types and special treatments that will need to be done:

    ===========

    Apartments or Condos: You will never be able to cure roaches in them unless you can get full access to each and every one of them, period.  Even then it'll take a while and roaches can reoccur with new tenants.

    Restaurants: Because food is prepared there, technicians have to be extra careful and can't go "hog-wild" as they might be able to do elsewhere.

    Warehouses: Because of the vast size and cubic feet - a ULV treatment would be best.

    Homes: ...this is the one that really matters.

    So, different roach types.  To discover what type of roach you have, go here: http://images.search.yahoo.com

    Search for "cockroach".  You're going to see a ton of photos... just pick the one that's closest.  Here's the ones that are straight-forward.

    ==============

    German Cockroach:  This is the roach that gives all other roaches a bad name.  You're not going to be able to do this yourself, period.  If you've tried a professional - find someone new.  More expensive does not always equal better.

    American Cockroach:  These live outside (mainly) and wander in at night.  Fix the weatherstripping, door sweeps and screens at your home.  Find their water source and fix or modify it.  A good outside spraying will reduce their numbers, but they still might arrive from a neighbor's house.  If you can afford to buy 10 gallons of Ortho Home Defense, that would do it, if you apply it correctly.

    Oriental Cockroach:  Same as the American roach, but pay special attention to leaf litter, landscape timbers and other areas that might contain rotting vegetation.  Although these roaches do need water, they don't need as much as the American Roach.

    Turkestan Roach:  These tend to live under slabs, such as between the garage slab and the driveway, or the stem wall and the patio.  Only a good, thorough treatment will help with these, but again, they'll come in from neighbor's houses too.  Check your weatherstripping, door sweeps and screens with this one too.

    All others: See the basic advice below, but I'm told that the Brown Banded and Smoky Brown roaches can be treated just like a German Roach.

    ===========

    Basic roach prevention:

    1. Remove all mulch, leaf litter, grass and landscape timbers within one foot of your home.  Use gravel and landscape cloth (NOT BLACK PLASTIC) to keep weeds out and help provide a dry barrier around your home.

    2. Door sweeps, etc etc etc.

    3. Trim all bushes, trees and plants near your home so that air can pass under their branches.  Remove all leaf litter.

    4. Clean your gutters.

    5. Clean your downspouts.

    6. Fix the leaky spigot.

    7. Quit watering those tulips so much.

    Don't bother trying to seal gaps in your slabs or between your slabs.  It'll last a few months and you'll have to do it again.  After a while it looks very nasty and there will still be roaches there if you're not treating on a regular basis.

    If you're in Yavapai County, AZ, msg me and I'll take care of you.

  2. If you live in an attatched dwelling ( condo, townhouse, apartment ) make sure your neighbors are treating at the same time, or the little buggers will just go back and forth.

    Another good option, get a cat. I have had a cat for 8 years, and have never seen a cockroach. When I lived in a condo, I had them, until I got a cat.

    Good Luck!

  3. This may sound strange but I understand it works.  Mix a little sugar with baking soda. place the mix in a bottle cap and place it for the roaches to find. Also place another cap filled with water near by. The roaches will eat the baking soda/sugar mix and drink the water.  The baking soda creates gas. The roaches can't get rid of the gas and it explodes their insides killing them.

  4. I have 2 rentals that were infested. I have tried the same methods you have using 2 different pest controllers also...still had roaches. the first time I got rid of them was when tenants moved out I cleaned house throughly then bombed and sprayed the h**l outta it (killed a bulk of them). then i read their resistence goes down when the temperature is below 45 degrees..it was near winter at this time and I left the place get cold inside and continued to keep spraying. It took a month of a cool house and sprays before they finally were all dead!

    The second time I did the same on another house but it was still warm out side...I bombed and sprayed and there were still some alive after 2 weeks, so a friend of mine told me to buy a product that kills them..I used it like the directions said and it seemed to work! It can be a little messy because its like a gel and you apply it to nooks and crannies etc. It's called Maxforce roach killer. It worked for me and I havent seen a roach in 2 years. Good luck! Read about it at this link.  http://www.pestproducts.com/maxforcegel....

  5. Use the ingredients professional exp exterminators use; Boric Acid, available at any drug store only make sure it's the kind that kills bugs, there are 2 kinds, but it works, I live in South Florida and I am an expert.
