Question:

Experiences wanted with Amtrak rail pass?

I'm thinking of travelling on Amtrak with a rail pass, but I see they say there are limited places on each train for pass users - is it difficult to get a seat? or is it that you just need to book a couple of days in advance? Real experiences would be appreciated:)

  1. I traveled across America 2 times by rail. The North East corridor can be crowded, DC to NY can be very cramped.

But they do have a lot of trains leaving, so you might have to wait for the next train, but I would think it would be fine.

Out west, don't worry about it. Lots of room.

It fun, but it is rough traveling. It is much nicer than the bus.
