Experiences with IUDs?

Did you bleed? Did you get pregnant with one? I heard from my Dr that you can get pregnant more often with an IUD than pills and most likely if you do, it's ectopic. I forget pills, but I'm worried about the side effects and bleeding and whatnot from the IUD. And yes I have a daughter, so I need to take SOMETHING.

  1. The Mirena is actually THE most effective reversible method available -- better than pills, patches, implants or shots. And, to make it even better, while you may bleed for a few weeks (sometimes longer) after insertion, as your body adapts, it often stops your periods completely.

The non-hormal IUDs can make menstrual bleeding worse and crampier, and aren't quite as effective as the Mirena, but are comparable to pills.

I used  Mirena for a while. Bled for a few months, then had no bleeding at all. Didn't get pregnant. (Obviously.)

  2. After the birth of my first child, I had an IUD (the one that is good for 5 years) put in and I had it in for 3 1/2 years and never got pregnant.  I had it removed because we were ready to try for baby # 2.  I got the IUD because I was the same way about pills - I would forget to take them.  There was a little bit of spotting and cramping after having it inserted but it wasn't bad.  The only side effect from the IUD was that my periods where lighter and I didn't really have any cramping - I'd call that a nice side effect though.  I didn't have any negative side effects.

IF you do get pregnany with an IUD it usually is ectopic and this was a concern of mine as well and so I asked my doctor what would happen it I did have an ectopic pregnancy from the IUD.  He told me that if they catch it early enough - they remove the IUD and give me pills to thicken my uterus so that the fertilized egg can go down the tubes and attach to my uterus and if successful - then I can carry out a normal pregnancy.

  3. First which IUD are you thinking about using. I was on the mirnea for 10 months and never got pregnant from it. yes you may bleed right after you have it put in but other then that you may have your period for a while but with me i have bleeding when it was first put in but after that i didn't bleed or even spot the whole time i had my iud in for 10 months that is. i had it removed because we are now trying to concieve number 2.  but if you have questions about it email me and ill try to help you out as much as i can.  email is w9mga@yahoo.com.
