  1. I am walking because of animal experimentation. Dogs, especially German Shepherds are subject to an inherited disease, hip displasia. The early experiments to replace their hip joints not only improved the health of the dogs but also led to the surgery that replaced both of mine.

There may be unnecessary experimentation on animals but ultimately medical science runs out of test tubes and computers and must try things on subjects most likely to have a human-like response.

If anyone ever dies because experimentation was not permitted that could have saved a life, that is a great sin.

Better 10,000 mice than one human being.

  2. from animal testing cures can come around without hurting humans..would u rather be the tester?

  3. What about it?

  4. Animal experimentation involves the incarceration of animals - which itself causes intense psychological distress - who are then poisoned, mutilated, given diseases and killed. It is arguably the most severe form of systematic violence in the modern world. Other terms for animal experimentation include 'vivisection', 'animal testing', and 'animal research'.

Many primates were literally 'found dead' in their cages before they could be euthanased. Additionally, the following observations of the primates were made by researchers - 'very distressed and having difficulty breathing... animal collapsed', 'uncoordinated limb spasms', 'suffered a stroke', 'retching and salivating', 'abdomen swollen and appears fluid filled. Salivating. Very laboured breathing. Extreme difficulty trying to walk', 'large volume of bloody mucoid faeces', 'Collapsed on cage floor, appears weak and unable to get up, breathing shallow and rapid, salivating, heavy lidded eyes, body and limb tremors'.

The research failed to achieve any of its main objectives, yet was allowed to continue for over five years before Uncaged's revelation forced the company to close.

  5. Experimentation on animals can be cruel and should be minimized, but it absolutely cannot be eliminated entirely.  This is because there is really no way to know how a given substance will react to living tissue without having the substance and tissue interact.  No computer model can ever replace that.

Let's put it this way - would you be willing to take a drug knowing that it's been tested with computer models, but without knowing what it actually does in a living organism?  Some people would say "yes," but most people would not.
