Experts concerned over internet traffic during London 2012 Olympic Games
Experts have recently commented that the coming of the London 2012 Olympic Games will be making the internet infrastructure of the United Kingdom slow.
Having said that, the experts also stated that there is a very real possibility of the internet infrastructure collapsing because of an unexpected increase in internet traffic from July 27 when the Olympic Games open until August 12 when they reach their
close.
James Blessing of the Britain's Internet Service Providers Association expressed himself on the matter in the following manner, “There is the potential for a massive hit on the infrastructure. It's between five and 10 times their normal output.”
According to the prediction made by the chief executive of the British Olympic Association (BOA). Andy Hunt, the London 2012 Olympic Games will bring along a tremendous amount of internet activity, in particular, Twittering.
Having said that, Hunt also added that the internet infrastructure providers such as the providers of the fibre optic cables and phone masts should brace themselves in order to cater to the rush of internet traffic.
In order to manage the traffic of internet surfers, the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games have allocated locations for Wi-fi hot spots to be used during the time of the Olympic Games. However, these hot spots would also not be exempted from
the setbacks that can occur because of the Olympic Games.
There are two main concerns that are currently worrying the network engineers of the United Kingdom. These are the influx faced by the spectators that would be using the internet in order to update their Facebook statuses during the time that an Olympic
event is taking place.
Not only that, people will also be making frequent use of the social media website, Twitter in order to keep themselves up to date with the medal count of the Olympic Games.
The other concern to the network engineers is the traffic experienced by the significantly high volume of the live video that will be streamed during the time of the Olympic Games by the national broadcaster of England, the British Broadcasting Corporation,
BBC.
