Experts on canada's mining industry..pls help!?

can someone tell me the main minerals mined in Canada and the importance of mining in Canada?? the answers in google are all different.

  1. did you try statscan yet?  I seem to remember getting info from there on mining employment, metal extraction data, etc.

    Obviously mining has been and continues to be a very important economic activity in Canada.  The types of ores vary according to geology, but I suppose there are three dominant metals classes: copper-zinc, gold, and nickel-copper.  World class mines and districts for copper-zinc deposits occur in the Abitibi of Qc and Ont (and in similar aged rocks across northern ontario into manitoba), Bathhurst district of NB, and in the BC mountains.

    Sudbury is a major Nickel (copper) district (thus the Big Nickel monument outside of Sudbury) and important deposits in labrador and northern quebec are more recent additions.

    Gold has always been a major ore in many places across canada, but I mention as a starter the Abitibi of ontario and Quebec.

    There are a lot of other important mining districts but too long to describe.  I summarized considerably.
