Experts’ opinions about Brazil making to the number 1 slot – 2011 FIVB World League
The Final Round of the 2011 FIVB World League is set to begin in full intensity today (Wednesday, July 6) with the Top-8 teams of the tournament.
After a spectacular display of volleyball in the previous six weeks, defending champion Brazil, United States, Russia, Italy, Bulgaria, Italy, Argentina and Cuba have clawed their way to the final phase of the competition. Only the finest teams with great
player-lines have managed to survive up till this stage. It is kind of difficult to say who will finish on the podium but Team Brazil has been tipped by many to finish in the top slot.
Under the command of head coach Bernardo Rezende, Brazilian squad made shocking waves in the preliminary round and topped the ranking in Pool A. They finished with the final score of 10-2 and bagged 30 points. Brazil advanced to the Final Round and found
a place in Pool F along with Russia, United States and Cuba. The National Team of Brazil is totally shaped up to add a 10th FIVB World League Title to their tally. Let’s see what volleyball experts’ say about Brazil’s chances.
Andrea Zorzi – Italy
Andrea Zorzi, who was part of gold-medallist Italian squad in 1990, 1991, and 1992, expressed his views about Brazil at a press conference held on Tuesday. He said Brazil is the team to beat once again. Furthermore he commented via his blog that world No.
1 team has good opportunity to win. He picked out Brazil to make it 10 World League titles.
Nalbert – Brazil
The former captain of Brazilian National Volleyball Team Nalbert, who led his group to number-one position in 2003 & 2004, said that Brazil is a true team. Everyone one is united for the cause. He assured that Brazil will play with full force and lots of
power, in order to clinch success.
Tom Hoff
The former captain of American team, Tom Hoff also shared his thoughts about different teams including Brazil. He commented, “Obviously Brazil is one of the strongest teams in the world at the moment, so this weekend’s match is an enormous one. We’ve played
them quite well in the last six years, beating them in Beijing, and part of that was learning to understand their game and using their strengths against them.”
Brazil is scheduled to take on Cuba in the second match of the day, which will start at 1330 local time. Check back for latest results.
